Addendum to "Love"....!

I reserve the right to contradict myself.

On that note, I would like to share with you something that I recently came across on one of my "online jaunts". My trusty readers (hmm..) might vaguely remember a post a few eons ago.. about love and its transcendental qualities or something like that.. I hardly remember myself what I had scribbled (most times, I use this blog as a sounding board for my random thoughts). So anyhoo, I was listening to the songs (if you can them that) from the tamil movie, "Santosh Subramaniam". The songs are utterly ridiculous but I did like the lyrics of one in particular:

Kadhaluku Kanngal - Santosh Subramanyam Song Lyrics

Hormoneகள் கொஞ்சம் மருதோ
ஒ ஒ ஒ எந்தன் நாள் முதல்
என் காதல் அவள் ராகத்தில்

And for the tamil-lovers but the non-tamil-readers, here's a transliteration of the same:
Kadhaluku Kangal illai yaaro sonnane
Moolai kudai illai endru sonnen naane
Aana ippo
Kadhalale bhoomi ingu suthudu endrale
Kadhal poove suthaathendu sonnen naane
Aana ippo

Loosu rendu sernthale summa pesi kondale
Kadhal varum thanale endren naane
Beachil vandu sundeli theernthu pochu endrale
Kadhal kuda theerum endren naane
Oh Oh Oh enna aanatho?
Hormonegal konjam marutho
Oh Oh Oh enthan naal muthal
En kathal aval raagathil

"Love is blind....

.........as far as the eye can see"....teehee! :-)

Controversy and Argument.

It is quite an understatement when I say, "I hate to argue". I just...I don't know..never ever been comfortable arguing (at which point, you might pipe up with, "whoever is?") because trust me, I know several people who are. There are folks that revel in this craft and wield their expertise in it.

"Argument for an argument's sake". Rather puzzling, is it not? At the same time, however, I find that the subject fascinates me. I am currently reading The Art of Controversy by Arthur Schopenhauer and in one instance, he says:

"If human nature were not base, but thoroughly honourable, we should in every debate have no other aim than the discovery of truth; we should not in the least care whether the truth proved to be in favour of the opinion which we had begun by expressing, or of the opinion of our adversary...... ........But, with most men, innate vanity is accompanied by loquacity and innate dishonesty. They speak before they think; and even though they may afterwards perceive that they are wrong, and that what they assert is false, they want it to seem the contrary. The interest in truth, which may be presumed to have been their only motive when they stated the proposition alleged to be true, now gives way to the interests of vanity: and so, for the sake of vanity, what is true must seem false, and what is false must seem true".

Meaning, simply, that most people hardly think before sta(r)ting an argument. I am particularly intrigued by one of the common fallacies of any controversy--ad hominem. I like it especially because it reflects the arguer's immaturity of mind--the fallacy, I have discovered, is also very easily recognizable. Taking a stance is one thing, but assuming a position that vetoes or criticizes the person rather than the argument itself is just....plain dumb.

Vanity, thy name is human.

"Can we refuse to inherit the world"???

..........hmm. I guess not.. Well, that's too bad.

Folks in media or exposed to it should really prioritize what they would like to have on record. As a world citizen, with issues like the waste of tons of resources (human and economic) on wars like the Iraq War ---which by the way started as a "War against terrorism" and they're now doing what, exactly???? How CAN you possibly end wars with more of them???!!!! Yeah, I get it..there isn't much to learn in terms of logistics there, Darfur-like "patheticism" (I have a goal to invent a new word everyday), Global warming, thousands of species getting into the T&E lists every other day, Urban sprawl, Corruption, and all the wonderful things that happen in domestic circles that may go unnoticed for years and years like the Austrian incest case (I was physically sick all of Wednesday morning), Walters proves yet again how entertaining affairs in D.C., political or other, can be (her TV shows obviously did not get her the attention she deserved, and I pity the fact that she had to resort to this). I now see this in the front page of the news.

I came across a highly amusing take on the whole thing this morning, take a look..

Affairs to Regret

In the "You Could've Taken This to the Grave and We Wouldn't Have Minded" category, newscaster Barbara Walters confessed she had an affair with U.S. Senator Edward Brooke, and country singer Mindy McCready confessed she had an affair with Hall of Famer Roger Clemens. In one week, a nation's faith in broadcasters, politicians, country singers, and baseball players had been ... um ... confirmed. The Walters-Brooke affair dated back to the '70s, was dusted off for her autobiography and "Oprah" interview, and, according to New York Magazine, surprised no insiders. The New York Daily News story received one side's "tearful" confirmation of the McCready-Clemens affair, which allegedly began in her teens, lasted 10 years, and may or may not appear on a documentary/reality show/album coming soon. Brett + Bhosle.

"Brett Lee takes on Bollywood". Peronally, I am not a big fan of the Australian pacer (and this is partly due to a reverse psychological effect induced by my Dad--he absolutely loves everything about the Aussies and their game). However, I would concede that Lee's getting better and better, especially with experts and critics comparing him to the likes of Shoaib Aktar. Anyway, to get to the crux of this wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinding epic that started out as a wee note:

Also, secretly, I know that this is going to be terrible for the Indian team. I am all for patriotism, but sometimes I do feel that the desi cricketers act a great deal better that they bat. Now, with their forte in histrionics slowly usurped by their counterparts from "Down Under"..I wonder...what will happen???

The value of "nothing"???

Out of nothing comes something.

I like to think that I am a design "genius". Not that everything I do oozes creativity, but that when passion strikes, it does something magical.

I am the sort of person that gets high, not on weed, but creative juices. And it has happened. All too frequently. Just when I think that I cannot possibly devise a meaningful solution that would, for use of a better phrase, "please everybody involved"...voila! it happens. It's like......magic! Amy Tan does a nice job of exploring the recesses of creative origin, and it doth pleaseth me to think that even string theory can be connected to the creative process! Wow. That's pretty..flattering.

You know the old saying..."lightning never strikes twice"?? Well. Never say never.

Beliefs are EVERYTHING.

This post, contrary to what the word "belief" might conjure up in your brains, is not about religion. I believe in a better world--and that is yet to come--one that is free of fear and hate and lies and lust.. However, I do, at times find myself constantly challenged by differing opinions--some scary, some nouveau, some just plain unfathomable. And..constantly too, do I see myself standing on shaky ground. Am I changing my beliefs? Have I succumbed? If yes, what have I become?

For, after all..there is a truth that I do know..and that is unequivocal: A person without his (or her) beliefs is like a painter sans eyes. Without them, (s)he has nothing.
